Working With Schools
Portsmouth North Rotary Club is proud to work with a range of local schools in the Portsmouth area. These schools, which sit at the heart of our local community collaborate with us on a range of initiatives and projects. Some of these are listed here.

Youth Speaks challenge young people’s public speaking abilities. In teams of three, participants present arguments and points of discussion, before taking questions from the judging panel.

Participants can select a topic which is important to them, giving them an opportunity to delve deep into research, formulate ideas and build confidence.
This initiative builds self-confidence in young people and develops public speaking skills, including how to keep an audience engaged preparing them for the challenges ahead in their chosen workplace.
Dictionaries 4 Life
Portsmouth North Rotary takes part in the Rotary Dictionary 4 Life scheme. The dictionaries will assist the pupils with their studies during their final year at the school as well as their future secondary education.
‘Dictionary 4 Life’ is a special project set up by Rotary in conjunction with Usborne Publishing Ltd.
It is part of Rotary International’s global literacy campaign, with the aim of providing as many Year 6 pupils as possible throughout Great Britain and Ireland with their own illustrated dictionary, courtesy of their local Rotary club.
Every dictionary is personalised with the recipient’s name, together with the name of the Rotary club that donated it and the date it was presented.
There is also a special page at the front of each dictionary where pupils can collect each other’s autographs, thereby also making it a unique timeless memento of their time at the school.
Almost 100,000 dictionaries are now donated each year to primary school pupils throughout Great Britain and Ireland.
