The Hayling Island First Responders

The Portsmouth North Rotary Club was visited recently by the Hayling Island First Responders as part of the Club’s ongoing programme of support for local charities. The Hayling Island Community Responders are a group of volunteers working for the South-Central Ambulance Service in Hampshire. When someone dials 999 or 111 the emergency operations centre alerts the First Responders and, as they are local and on call, they are usually the first on scene and provide emergency medical assistance to people before an ambulance arrives. The team demonstrated first aid techniques and the use of a defibrillator. The First Responders rely totally on voluntary workers and charitable donations to function and a Rotarian donation was well deserved. On the same occasion the Club took the opportunity to present the Manager of the Langstone Quays Resort Hotel Marco Ruben Salvai with honorary membership of the Rotary Club of Portsmouth North in recognition of the outstanding support the Club has received from the hotel over the last 10 years.
